Another service offered by Tri-County Association for the blind is our Low Vision Center,
opened in May 2003 to enhance the quality of life for people in Central Pennsylvania whose
eyesight cannot be improved through medical or surgical treatments.
Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness affecting more Americans than
cataracts and glaucoma combined. Although there's no cure, high-tech gadgets can make
reading easier.
Whether you're 25 or 75 and whether your vision loss is moderate or severe, your life can
be fulfilling and happy. Knowledge of low vision aids along with a healthy dose of
determination can prevent low vision from stealing the joy that rightfully belongs to you.
Low Vision Care is not a surgical procedure or medicinal treatment, but rather a
rehabilitative program to teach you new strategies to maximize your remaining vision.
Our goal is to provide a wide range of affordable high quality vision aids to those living
with low vision. Our services offer patients the opportunity to make the best possible use of
their remaining vision by offering a full range of low vision products. The use of these
visual aids enables patients to resume many of their normal activities and regain a higher
level of independence.
Tri-County´s Low Vision Center offers a wide range of low vision products, such as
talking products, magnification devices, video magnifiers, UV sun shields and various
daily living products to help make life easier for vision impaired people in Dauphin,
Cumberland and Perry counties. For a free evaluation contact our Low Vision Specialist, Mike
Barry, mbarry@tricountyblind.org.
