Blind and Visually Impaired Children to Explore The Possibility Place

Harrisburg, PA -- The Possibility Place, the first fully handicap accessible playground in central Pennsylvania, is now accessible for children who are blind or visually impaired. Tri-County Association for the Blind (TCAB) approached members of the playground committee last year after final construction of the playground was complete in August of 2006.
TCAB realized that none of the playground equipment was Brailed and offered to Braille the major pieces of playground equipment at no charge to the Possibility Playground. In Early June, three employees from TCAB including one employee who is blind spent several hours walking the playground and strategically placing the Braille signs around the playground. According to Londa Peterson, TCAB Computer Technology specialist, the Braille signs make it easy for children who are blind to navigate the playground.

TCAB’s “Out of Site Club” summer campers will get the opportunity to explore the Possibility Place on Thursday July 26, 2007. The Out of Site Club summer camp will include 10 elementary aged children who are blind or visually impaired that will spend a week together learning new life skills and pushing their personal boundaries.
Activities for the week will include; Day camping, fishing , swimming, music and movement and a trip to Hershey Park. The camps are integral as they not only expose the children to new experiences but also give them the opportunity to socialize and bond with one another.

Tri-County Association for the blind supports and promotes the interests of people who are blind, visually impaired and otherwise disabled in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. To learn more about the summer camps or any other services and programs, visit their web site at www.tricountyblind.org, e-mail info@tricountyblind.org or contact TCAB at 717-238-2531.
