Summer Camps

The Prevention Department is thrilled to host our fourth annual summer camps for children who are blind and visually impaired. TCAB partners skills and staff with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit to host our annual "Upward and Onward", transition camp for teens and our "Out of Site", Jr. camp for elementary school students, who are blind or visually impaired.

Both camps prove to be instrumental in the further development of the children and teens. Through both camps, students are exposed to a myriad of events and activities. First and foremost, they have an opportunity to meet and bond with other children who are blind and visually impaired. Each camp is tailored to the developmental needs of the teens and elementary aged children.

TCAB Opens a New Eyewear Shoppe
Eyewear Shoppe opens at TCAB

TCAB is offering a new service for people who need eyeglasses or prescription sunglasses. The Eyewear Shoppe opened in February to fill a need to provide affordable eyeglasses for people who need glasses and can’t afford to purchase them at a retail store..

The Eyewear Shoppe is located onsite at TCAB and offers glasses ranging from $40 for a basic pair up to $100 for specialty eyewear.

Customers need to visit their own eye doctor for an eye exam and a prescription. They can then contact TCAB, and set up an appointment for a fitting. They will bring their prescription to the TCAB Eyewear Shoppe, where a trained eyeglasses consultant will provide one on one service to help each customer find their best fit and style. Once the frame is chosen the staff will handle all the necessary paperwork, but can’t file insurance forms. The customer’s finished glasses are then shipped directly to their home. The shop stocks over 100 frame styles available for both children and adults.

The TCAB Eyewear Shoppe will be open on Wednesday’s 12-3:30 pm by appointment only. If you are interested in purchasing a pair of glasses or learning more about any of the services at TCAB, contact Mike Barry at 717-238-2531.
